Signal Tower HGUNTS146689, Shane Burklow

An outpost constructed to observe and analazye solar flares. Solar flares strongly influence the local space weather of the Earth. They produce streams of highly energetic particles in the solar wind and the Earth’s magnetosphere that can present radiation hazards to small children and old women. The soft X-ray flux of X class flares increases the ionisation of the upper atmosphere, which can interfere with short-wave radio communication, cellular devices, fantasy football, and can increase the drag on low orbiting satellites, leading to orbital decay. Energetic particles in the magnetosphere contribute to the aurora borealis and aurora australis. Solar flares release a cascade of high energy particles known as a proton storm. Protons can pass through the human body, doing biochemical damage to genitals. The proton storms are produced in the solar wind, and hence present a hazard to kittens during interplanetary travel. Most proton storms take two or more hours from the time of visual detection to reach Earth’s orbit, and then they burn people alive. This base was completed in 1893 and protects the Andean Range with an electromagnetic force field.

Monument of Contradiction

The reason why I selected this location was because I wanted it to be somewhere where it would contradict its surroundings. For example, if some hikers by chance find this monument, they’d wonder why this geometric figure is in such an oragnic place.

///ABVNDANCE STACKED ON ABVUNDANCE 1997\\\

Tower of circular translucent pools, stacked over several humanoid figures, adjacent to several giant vertical pools, attached to another stack of gradiants made in Photoshop CS3, with a flag which is a depiction of my half-sister and my father, my half-sister dressed as the devil, taken Halloween 1990, somewhere near or in Laramie, Wyoming, which coincidentally is my birthplace. The stack of circular pools is not referencing the Marina City apartments of Chicago, although my father once lived there. The vertical pools are not ment to be ironic, although after their creation this was noted and appreciated. The repitition of the humanoid figure, which is the standard “SketchUp” figure placed in the free program offered by Google, was planned. The stack of gradiants is not a reference to Cory Arcangel, but is however a purely aesthetic choice and tied to Arcangel’s influence on me. The picture of my half-sister and my dad is something that I have had with me for a long time. I haven’t been to Laramie, Wyoming since 1998, which at the time was two years after I had permanently moved from there to Grand Forks, North Dakota. I currently have no relatives or any ties to this place except through memory.
