The Legeti-Stone
In 1951, György Ligeti – a contemporary composer, left his birthplace in Târnava-Sânmărtin, Romania, to explore the world. This monument is a giant ticking metronome that kept time with Ligeti’s moods and expiriences since he left town and only stopped when he would return for short stays. Since he is buried in Zentralfriedhof, Vienna, this monument will continue to tick forever and ever and ever and ever. It is a visual representation of what a Legeti composition would look like if it’s fundametal medium was not comprised of sound, but rather began as; a man on a bike with dreadlocks. sporting a disco ball helmet and dressed in all white, crashing into a muddy river, deep inside the woods of Ligeti’s hometown.

It was never about the coffee.
Starbucks has built almost 17,000 stores is 40 years. There success is less from the product and more from their suffocation business plan. It is no coincidence that theses store are at every corner. There are only corporate stores and licensed stores. Licensed stores are only where Starbucks Corporate cannot lease a space, such as the VCU Cabel Library location.
This non-monument sits on top of the first store in Seattle’s Pike Place Market. From a street level, viewers would be looking up, seeing only the cup, not knowing the tagline or what it sits on. (Logo intentionally corrupted)
